FIrst is the written (ARCO and Barron's study guides), if you pass then there is a 3 person interview, if you pass then there is the PAT:
24' padder on a rack, lower to the ground and back 2x
50' section of hose w/nozzle run up 5 floors and back
electric fan from ground up and hang on a frame and back
gas fan carry 75'
30' ladder lean up to a building hand over hand and back to ground 2x
halyard pull ( 35' ladder) 2x
dummy drag 75' 160#
walk about 300'
bucket carry ( 2 foam buckets filled w/ water) 400'
hose sled 100' 125#
then there is the cheif's interview
Usually the interviews trip people up the most, we do practice interviews at the stationsupon request.
go to our website for specifics but no age limit, we have guys that live 4 hrs away in both OR and WA. The resume only comes into play during the interviews
I was wondering if anyone knows when Portland will let us know if we passed the inital interview and have a date for the PAT. Also does portland not do a stair climb with 70 lbs on your back. I just watched the video and they didnt say anything about it.
Coug, have you gone to the training center for the PAT practice? If you haven't then you should plan to. The PAT is done with Helmet, coat and simulated SCBA about 33#
I have not had time to get up to Portland lately to do the practice. Do you know if they are having the practice this weekend? I am going to be up there for the TVFR test on Saturday
If you haven't taken advantage of the practice sessions....there's only a few more weeks left. Friday's & Saturday's through March 3rd, I believe.
It's been an invaluable tool in preparing for the PAT, I cannot recommend it enough. The crews there are extremely helpful, will share tricks, recommendations, evaluations...as well as plenty of encouragement. It's the little things that they have suggested that have helped me improve my times on their course.
But I will second Coug's question....any idea around when (given the candidate does well on the oral board) the PAT will be administered?
