I was just wondering if someone could walk an aspiring firefighter through the basic selection process for hiring. Also any tips/tricks learned and anything about the polygraph and pshyc which isn't covered in depth in any books that i have, I know of alot of people failing one or the other, is it becuase they just aren't telling the truth?

Well on the West Coast it is very competive. You usually need your ff-1 wich you get from a college fire academy. You should have an EMT cert. Then you can turn in an application to a city that is testing. (subscribe to Firecareers.com) This will tell you every city testing is the U.S.Then test with
1000 other people. Then if you pass the test with a high enough score it agility time. Then if you pass that it is Oral interview time. Now is you time to be different than every one else. Check out eatstress.com. Capt Bob is the best!!!! Then if your lucky enough to be one of the few selected to go to background, fairly straight forward. Then medical usual nothing exciting hearing test, color blind, walk like a duck.
Thats it good luck takes some people years!!!!
