    Hi all,
I am new to the forum, it's going to take some time to tour the site due to the vast amount of information which is great. I am looking to volunteer at a firehouse in my community. I was wondering from your expirence if I decided to make a career out of firefighting is this a good step? I am a college grad and a flight instructor now.

    Yes
Let's you see the real world of the fire department

Also gets your name out there if you test for a paid department

      Thanks

It's weird I can't seem to find much info for the job. But, sounds like fun to me. Is it proper to just show up at the station to chat or should I try to schedule something? I live close and I think I'm much more impressive in person than on a phone.

I think it's "weird" that you can't find much information about the job. All you have to do google "firefighter jobs" and you'll get 282,000 results!! Is that not enough for you??

Definitely get down to the firehouse and ask well thought out questions. Most firefighters will be glad to help you navigate the process. This forum is excellent, so use it to the max! Volunteering is a great way to get started and a great way to see if this profession is your calling. Yes, this profession is a calling; not a job!
