Hey everyone. My name is Steve and as you can tell I'm new here. I'm 20 years old and I'm here to get advice from the people that do this everyday. I'm currently going to college for culinary arts but that is just to raise my GPA before next semester starts. I used to volunteer in my local Fire Dept. when I was 16 and I loved every minute of it, but my family came under some hard times so I had to leave the department and get a job. One thing led to another and I never got the opportunity to go back, it's something I regret but everything happens for a reason. I've always been interested in firefighting, I remember going to the local fire station with my grandfather who volunteered and always being interested in what they were doing.
Now that I've got the introduction out of the way I guess I'll get to the point. I'm planning on going to my local community college to get an associates degree in Fire Science which I can get in two years. I'm working two jobs pulling 70 plus hours a week to pay for college and everything else. I have a clean record and I've been told I have all the qualities to become a firefighter. So my question to you all is, what advice can yall give me to actually make this dream a reality? I would love to get back into volunteering, but like I said earlier working two jobs and going to school fulltime I barely have time to do anything.
