  • Will CT certs transfer to FL?

hey everyone, i am currently in EMT class here in the state of CT. Ive been contemplating moving to FL sometime this year. The question i have is will my EMT and Fire 1/haz-mat ops/NIMS transfer to FL? or is there like a bridged class that will make up the difference in the levels?

Call the Fla State Fire Marchals office, have your certs in hand when calling, you will have to challenge the exam and take the written test... Fla only reconizes 360+ hrs FFII certs though....IFSAC would be easier to qualify...

Wakehead, does it make it any easier to obtain Fl certifications from CT if you have IFSAC?

I have heard IFSCA is kinda like National Registry, jump through a few small hoops, sounds a lot easier...IMO, but as I said before for a Paid FF you must be NFPA 1001 FFII 380-400 hour class certified...and NR EMT-B minamum....if you are that plus a Medic...you choose where you want to work....Fla is hurting for Fire-Medics.

Let me know if you have anymore questions... good luck in Fla. I left and moved to Colorado last year after a great 12 years of service with Martin County Fire Rescue......there are some great Depts down there...

FWIW, CT fire certs are eligible for ProBoard national certs. CT certs are also recognized by IFSAC but I have to say that I never saw any reason for IFSAC to be created in 1990 when there was already a widely recognized fire service national certification body in the NPQS since 1972...

              From a floridian

Hey, to answer your question Florida will only recognize a FL state FF cert, nothing else. This is per a state testing proctor ( not me, a one i had asked the very same), if you have an out of state EMT-B go to www.fl-ems.org and they will have the reciprocity information for you there. As i understand it, with your state cert. down here you get a proboard cert as well, but if you have one from another state you will have to test down here. FL state test is no biggie, based of the NFPA or IFSTA and seven stations.
