I think the biggest factor will be the actual numbers of FF who retire this year. That is why the academy after March is being pushed to the Fall Sept/Oct, maybe the number of guys retiring is slowing down. I guess nobody can really predict any list or how far they will get on our list.
Are you sure they were not candidates for EMS. There were alot at my psych test and a few for a medical all ems candidates not fire.

I am not 100 percent sure. But I do know that they came in the same room as we did, filling out the paperwork and putting down Firefighter Candidate. So I just assumed they were for the FF medical. But I am not sure how it works if they were there for EMS or not.

4700s for investigations? Are you sure you don't mean 4700s for packets? I hope you're right, but that means they are REALLY tearing through the list now and there MUST be a class after the fall/summer

If I am not mistaken, packets is basically the same thing as investigations. Another words, when you fill out a packet, you give in all your info and then you are assigned an investigator. This happens before the medical. But being investigated and going through the medical doesn't guarantee you a spot in the academy, at least that is what I heard. Each candidate has to pay a 75 dollar money order fee for the process, so it really doesn't cost the city anything to go through with the investigation and medical process, they probably make money off it, that is why they charge 75 for each person. But its a step in the right direction.

In case some weren't sure it is absolutely offical as in the Dept orders 300 new probies in March.

            Best of luck.

yeah you're right, when you hand you packet in thats when you investigation starts, they will do you investigation before, while, and after your med and phsyc. depends on your list number. ex: if numbers 4600 to 4800 get packets and hand them in, then they will start investigating numbers 4600 to 4650, then when that group is done they will do another block of like 50 or a hundred. so some people could have there entire background done before their med, and some just before the academy, even though they handed them in on the same day. The $75 is for your finger prints, im not sure who the money goes too but it seems as if every time i have to get my prints taken for one reason or anther (whether it's for another job or a licence, things of that nature) it always cost $75, i dont think they are making a profit off of it. but also remember the medical resoults are only good for a year, so if you get called the the medical and have a good number chances are they may be looking to get to your number in less then a year, otherwise they would push your medical date back. ie, if you have your medical scheduled before May 5th of this year, looks like you have a shot to get hired off of the list.

Turning in your packet is not exactly the same as truly beggining the investigations process. It takes a few months to get assigned an investigator, maybe a little less. I think that's when the investigations really begins.

As for the 75 bucks, it covers prints only, not the medical. The med is the first time the department is really spending money on you. It costs them several hundred dollars per candidate. It's no guarantee that they'll get to you (believe me, I'm fretting that now), but it's a step in the right direction.

**The Grapevine is still up, but the old thread is gone, probobly due to all that spam porn crap. There's a new thread though, so go back and keep up the info.

                          packet coming...

                          hey everyone,

so it seems my number is finally coming up - only crappy thing is, i've been ignoring for the longest time that i was *technically* ineligible when i took the test. i was a few months too old.

i wonder if anyone has any idea how to get around this? has anyone heard of any stories about anyone who has been able to slip it a few months by investigations, or somehow otherwise get around it? do they actually do the math after seeing my birth certificate and realize you are too old?

any advice would be appreciated. i'm sure most of what i'll hear is "you're ****ed" or "get a fake id" or something like that...

No way to get around this. Very competative and honestly once they know your age, if too old they will do away with you! I am currently 30 yrs old and am expecting to get in the march class. Its a blessing they made my number when they did. I hope it all works out for you. Good luck!

that is one of the first things they do at your interview. There were a couple of guys that made it to the interview and ended up leaving because they were too old. Unless of course you fall under their military rules.

Hey all, Rumor has it that the letters will go out for the next class on Feb 12th. Swear in date is the last monday of this month and the class will begin march 5th. The list is SUPPOSED to get up to 3700-3800 for this class and they will appoint somewhere in the 250-300 range for the march class. This is coming from an insider at metrotech. Hope some of you get called as I am 34** on the list and should get called for this class. Good luck all!
