    I would encourage you to go to your local fire department and ask who does their backgrounds. Oftentimes it is a firefighter who is on shift and does the backgrounds on his day off. I would encourage you to ask to take him to lunch (everyone eats lunch). Explain your concerns to him or her. While their answer is not an absolute as background standards vary from epartment to department, it will give you a barometer of where you stand.

    Lastly, Jay Dudley frequents this board. He is a retired fire engineer (driver) who did them for a major California fire department. He is very helpful. I am sure he will weigh in on the subject.
