  • Omaha or Council Bluffs

Has anyone heard anything about Omaha or Council Bluffs testing this year yet or next. Far as I know it has been awhile since either one of them tested. Thanks

Omaha will be testing very soon...they just sent me a postcard a couple of days ago. They are currently taking applications right now. Applications will not be accepted after November 9th, 2006 @ 4:30 pm.

I haven't heard anything about C.B....don't know if they hired anyone off their last list or not.

Where can I get information about the Omaha fire dept? I have looked at their website, and I can't find any information about when the application period is, or where to get an application. Also, when is the test, and what all does it entail? Thanks for your help.

            Medical Exams

I was up for my medical about a month ago and it came up that I have a plate in my ankle from an injury about 8 years ago. Concerned by this, they said I had to go back and see the orthopaedic specialist. I did that last week, and he now said that I have to come back for a "full board" where all the docs get together and make a decision on whether or not I can proceed. Has anyone else gone through this process??? I would hate to have gotten this far for nothing!

Has anyone here taken the written exam before? Do you know what type of
test it is? basic civil service or psych, will no prior fire experience needed
iam guessing it will be a civil service test...

IMHO, Omaha's test is harder than a basic civil service test. But, you do not have to have prior firefighting experience for the test.

                  4 Sections of the Test:
                  1. Understanding Oral Information
                  2. Reading & Understanding Written Information
                  3. Numerical Skills
                  4. Mechanical Aptitude

The oral part, if I remember correctly, was about 7-9 minutes long on the last test....and there was about 15-20 questions based on the oral passage.

Know gears (direction and speed) and pulleys, too.

Also, there was not a psych section on the written test. That was involved with the 3rd part of the testing process. Omaha no longer uses the video interview as the third step....they now use the Fire Team testing.

Crow, you seem to know alot about the Omaha FD, so just curious, and you don't have to answer if you don't feel comfortable, but where are you getting all this information? I have looked at their website, but can't find this information. I am also wondering, since you said there are four test times on the 18th, do you know what they are and if you can sign up for a certain time? I am supposed to be going out of town that day and need to take the test as early as possible. Thanks for all your help, and good luck to everyone that is taking the test.

                              Mack,

The initial information I received was via a postcard sent to my house announcing the upcoming test for "Firefighter". I made the eligibility list from the last test...so I think they must send the postcard to all that made the list but were not hired. I then went down to the Human Resources Dept. and picked up an application. Then I turned in my application and that's when they give you the choices for selecting what time you want to take the written test....and they give you a small study packet and OFD brochure.

On the city website....click on the "Employment" link at the top of the page...that should take you to a list of jobs that the city is accepting applications for.

They are offering 4 different times to take the written test. I THINK these are the times....

                              1. 7:00 AM
                              2. 10:30 AM
                              3. 1:00 PM
                              4. 4:30 PM
