KCFD process

Anyone know when the next class will begin & the amount of people that it will hold? Also heard that there may be a mass retirement in the works. Any truth to this? Thanks for any info.

the next class starts in october of this year. i don't know the numbers, but the last class was 25 or 30. i think they anticipate hiring at least that many for the october class, and there are some rumors of another class in early '07.

Do they want you to live in KC when you apply or just before they offer you job. How many people apply there useualy. I currently live in springfield MO and full time in Nixa. Thanks for the info

Aneff you have to be a resident of KC and I want to say theres around 1000 that apply & the list holds around 300. Numbers Ive heard in the past may be different.

136 but from Ive heard from others on the job over there they go down the list pretty fast due to people not passing the background or the class itself. Just curious what are my chances? Hopefully good. Also how many retirements are you guys expecting this year? One more question what house do you come from if you dont mind me asking?

i couldn't speculate what your chances are. i will tell you that my ranked number was about what yours is and i got hired over a year after i applied. usually the list is good for two years. i have no idea how many retirements are planned for this year, and if i were you i wouldn't pay any attention to that sort of scuttlebut. alot of people talk about retiring, but until a guy puts in his paperwork, its just talk. i'd be surprised if you made the october class, but i can tell you this; if you get hired next year it is well worth the wait...

Before you apply or when a job is offered

I was wondering if you had to live there before you apply or have to be a resdient when a job offer has been extended. 1000, thats a lot but I just done with Seattle testing and I did pretty well (it was luck) thanks for the info and stay safe!

I also heard from another that there is probably going to be another class early '07 like you had said & he also said plans are for a class of 50 in October. I think in August is when the 2 year list is up. Let me know if you hear anything different. Thanks. How do you like coming out of 36s?

i know they are making calls for the october 9th academy class right now. i have a buddy who was #70 or 71 on the list who got called yesterday. (he is going to pass on the job, but that's another discussion). i don't know how many are getting hired in each class.
36's is a kind of mid grade assignment. we get about 1900-2000 calls/year. the actual house is brand new, which has some benefits. i am always looking for a busier house to transfer into, but for a first assignment, its hard to complain about 36's.

Saw 19s was in their new house & 14s, 23s & 41s are close. Also heard the Rescues & Haz-Mat arent to far away from being delivered. Do you know the next houses about to get new or remodeled once these others are completed? I think 36s would be a great house especially your first company. Are you set on working on a Pumper or are you going to transfer over to a Truck? Talk to ya later.
