  • Do you know if they just started making calls or if they have already called everybody

    • Fasteddie, congrats on the offer, 2 years is a crazy amount of time to hang onto one department. Are you a medic? I've heard the process goes much quicker if you are due to their needs.

      • The 140 that I posted is not a typo. But could very have well been a miscommunication. I was driving through a tunnel in the downtown area, when I received the phone call. So the connection was very bad. I am a paramedic Flanders.

        • That 140 might be true cause they can break that up into two different classes of 70 cause that's the number other people heard

          • Does anybody know the failure rate for recruits? Starting pay through the academy & then upon graduation? How long is the academy? If I remember correctly 6 months?

            • Rooms for rent in Frederick, MD

For those getting offers for the September class, I have two rooms for rent in a 3bd 3.5ba townhouse in Frederick, Md. Rent is $600 not including utilities or $700 including utilities. Rent includes private room, shared bathroom and full use of home.

I am a firefighter in one of Fairfax's border departments. The house is approx a 45min drive from Fairfax academy. I also have a 1.5year old male German Shepherd.

If interested email me at [email protected]

              • The duration of the academy changes. The 137th and 138th were both 22 weeks. I am not sure how long 139th will be.

Failure rates vary from class to class the more people the higher the number tends to be.

                Starting pay is about 54k.

                    • Hello all,

I also received a call last Thursday inviting me to recruit class in September 21st. I thought I heard him say that I would be in 143rd recruit class, but I might be mistaken. Last class was 139 correct? Anyway, For the people who received calls, have any of you gone for uniform fitting yet? I was told they'd be in touch regarding uniform fitting within 48 hours, but still haven't received a call.

                      Thanks.

                      • Probably gonna get more questions than answers from most of us lol. How long have you been on the completed list up to now? Did you get any indication you were getting hired until the phone call? Finally, any idea when the rest of the phone calls are set to go out? Props to getting hired, sorry I cant help you out on your questions.

                        • Flanders,

I completed the process back in March of this year. In total the process took me about a year and a half to finish. They sent a letter of completion in the mail, besides that they didn't really give me an idea of when I was getting hired or what class I'd be in. The call just came out of the blue. I'm not sure of how many more calls they're sending out. Sorry.

                              • Ok cool I tested for the FF/EMT positions last July and just finished the process last week so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get that magic call for the class in September. I'm hoping that my vet preference helps me out.
