  • I take my written test on the 23rd, what can I expect in the future process?

    • 23rd of June? Next is cpat practices. Should go to at least one to show your self. I think they give you 8 weeks to get ready for test.

      • The practice sessions help a lot. If for nothing else, lets you get familiar with the course. The course doesn't change so you can find techniques that work for you for each event and you get to meet the staff and they put a face to a name.

        • My written exam is in early July…I already have my CPAT done, will this help speed up my processing? Or will I be waiting a few months for everyone that was at my test session to complete their CPATs?

I think it really just depends on where the county is as far as numbers. I heard enough to believe a September class is going to happen so I imagine if the county doesn't have enough people to meet the magic number for that class, then they will fast track you. I also know for a fact, recruitment told me, that they have a HUGE backlog of people to get through. I took my written in June 2014, used my CPAT from PG county in August, turned in my background in shortly after, did my medical in December, and my first Poly in April and I am waiting to do my second Poly. I know 2 classes have graduated this year and the department still looking to add numbers. I'm not sure if that helps at all but good luck and let us know if you hear anything.

The detective will also put the questions into context first. They will ask you if you have ever stolen something that the police would care about (probs wouldn't care if you took a pen from a bank but would care if you stole a computer from the office). They will ask about any previous drug use, alcohol-based arrests (to me it seems they don't care if you drink a beer everyday, they want to know do you get black out every night or have you ever been arrested or done stupid ****). There is a long questionnaire he will go through with you first without you hooked up and that is you opportunity to be honest and up front (drugs, arrests, felonies, any sexual acts with not of age persons when you were of age, finances). Then after you will get hooked up to the machine. Just be natural, if you are nervous, then be nervous, if you are relaxed then be relaxed, don't try if you are nervous to relax or feel that you are too relaxed, you start to tense up bc that will show. Just be up front and honest and the detective will stop you if its something he (again FFX FD) doesn't need nor really care about. The other huge thing, GET A GOOD NIGHT'S REST AND IF YOU DIDN'T TELL THEM UP FRONT. The setting, once you start to relax is prime to doze off, go to bed early before and make sure you are well rested for the Poly.

                Good luck

You have to take two polygraphs?

The first one I did came back inconclusive, so the county is going let me re-test. Another guy I know who just finished the academy said that most of his class had to do 2 polys

                  • This might sound like a silly question but regarding the employment reference tracking sheet. Is this for personal references that work with you? If so, how many references do we need to put on there?

Read the PHS instructions, they answer this question in the FAQ. Your reference tracking sheet should have the name of supervisor. If your supervisor no longer works there either, they say to leave it blank.

I had to do two polys myself. The second one was more brief, and focused on only one area. For me, it was drugs for some reason. I left the second one feeling like I didn't pass. The detective told me that I was showing deception, and that I needed to give an explanation. I had no explanation, since I was being truthful. I was told to contact him if I could explain why there was deception.

I was so sure that I failed that I took another job several states away, which I left when Fairfax gave me an offer.

That intense. Yea, I figured they would try to trip you up and see if you stick to your guns. Did you just graduate with the last class?

I heard they were going to put two through?
