I only scored a 79 too not sure how that works. I am scheduled for my poly and medical now. Not sure what to expect on the poly, another department I applied for had a questionare for me to which they would ask me. How does Fairfax do theirs ?

Any idea how far down lists they usually go? By the end of April, I'll have my EMT and finish all steps ... But only scored a 79 written.

There are a few things I learned and wish I did differently:

    1. EVERYTHING is competitive. Every interaction, test, evaluation, etc., is taken into consideration. So even though you may have passed, it doesn't necessarily make you a competitive candidate.

    2. Do your best to pass on the first try. I had to retake the poly and it extended my process time for almost a year.

    3. If something does get delayed and either you need to fix something or they need to review, fix it ASAP and call often to make sure they aren't putting off getting to it. They are really busy and sometimes things fall through the cracks. For example, my eyesight was on the edge of not passing so they asked for my most recent prescription and all they had to do was look at it, approve it, and send my class A, but they didn't get to it for like 4 months.

    4. Just get an EMT-B cert at least. It is relatively inexpensive and only takes about 4 months. I know a lot of firefighters and a lot of them got in because they had a certification. It makes you a competitive candidate.

Obviously it is not guaranteed, but it does help. All of this info is either observed or is from a "higher up" I know that worked in the recruiting section.

    Good luck out there...

I think every person is different. For my poly, I was told "everything looks good. and there was no reason for concern". As for chances, I feel they really take everything into account. its not just the score of your test. I got a 90 and my file was complete this past summer. I, also, have no clue about how all the actual selection works.

Do they tell everyone they reacted to something to get them to 'fess up? I was given no indication as to whether I passed or not. I hope I did, but doubt I scored high enough to get in anyways.

Got 80 on the written. Any chance at all?...
They said I reacted to one question and tried to get me to change my answer. No idea if I passed. Whereas the previous poly I took for a dept in Texas I was told I passed right after the test.

Does anybody know if calls have gone out yet? Or has anybody been called? The uncertainty is the worst part of the whole process...

Thats probably cool too. The sheet they gave me was actually specific to my contact lenses so you're probably good.
