  • The woman who scheduled my written exam seemed confused. Can anyone confirm that the new exam date is the 22nd?

I'd call Recruitment and ask them. No offense to anyone here, but if you want straight scoop - go to the source.

      Good luck!

        • There's a proposal floating around, and it's just a proposal, for future new hire FF/Emt's to be trained to EMT-Enhanced in the academy. They would be minimal staffing for an ambulance. No more EMT-B. This is good for the non-medics out there, since the dept will hire regular FF's. The downside is if you don't care for EMS, you won't just be a basic w/o much responsibility, you'll be an EMT-E, giving drugs, starting lines, providing CPAP, potentially as the lead provider. If you like EMs, then you'll enjoy the increased scope of practice w/o having to go to medic school. We won't know anything for some time, though.

            • Who is taking the exam on 12/3? I'm staying in a hotel down there over in Leesburg Thursday into Friday. Send me a pm if you'd be down there.

              • How did they administer the polygraph? Basic questions in the beginning (Eg. Is your name so and so? into Have you smoked marijuana?)

Or did they do it just from your personal history sheet?

The detective starts by asking a whole bunch of questions, basically going down the personal history statement. The biggest thing is not withholding any information.Anything that is on your mind, tell him. Like everyone else has said they are not looking for perfect people they are looking for honest people. The detective doesn't want to fail you. He is there to help you pass.

                  Hope this helps! Good luck!

Thank you. As is typical, I'm a college student, and I am not perfect.

Also I was curious, does it help if you are a certified NR-EMT or does their preference only pertain to Intermediates and Paramedics?

                    Thanks

Being a paramedic definitely helps. I am sure any level will help but paramedics are sought after more than any other cert level.

                      • In the process for Fairfax County FF/EMT. Just took my medical and will take the polygraph shortly. Does anyone know if they have been approved for a recruit school in 2011? Just curious to see how far other applicants maybe in the recruitment process?
