  • Can Anyone Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm about to start training to become an EMT and was looking for some information on British nationals working for a fire dept. or EMS dept. in the US
I would need to know if this is possible, due to the need for visas, sponsorship etc. and whether any training that i have in the UK will be transferable or if i would need to start from scratch.

From some research that i have carried out, there seems to be a need for medics in most parts of the country and didn't know if they fill these positions with people from abroad.

If anyone could give me any further information i would be most greatful

    Thanks in advance

    Dave

Transferring paramedic licensure from one country to another can be quite a hassle, but I have heard of it being done before.

Send me a PM, I might have some helpful info for you.

      transferring

I wouldn't worry about transferring your qualifications although most states will probably ask you to sit a 'state' exam. Getting the visa seems to be the hardest task.

Unless you have direct family or a highly sought after qualification/trade it's hard work believe me. I've been looking to move to the US from the UK for a while now, I've got fire service, fire prevention, fire engineering and basic medical qualifications but I can't find the right visa or any that I qualify for come to that.

I've been informed that some states will take you on with UK qualifications but you must be a US citizen first.

Good luck with the search though - let me know if you find a visa category that you can apply for.

      Chris.
