IFSTA has a great prep test on CD-Rom. After 25 years in the fire service I found it a valuable asset when I prepped for the Certification tests.

    Not Common

This is not common. I find it hard to believe that a civil service test would weight the written after pass/fail.

    Captain Bob,

Thanks for your reply. I just recently took a test in Virginia. The written is pass/fail, yet they give you a score and you are ranked. You are then asked to take the physical agility test. If you pass the physical they then notify those canidates who scored the highest on the written to move on to the oral boards. If there are 20 positions open then they will only ask the top 30 on the written to move on to the orals. They ask 10 for the 1st position and 1 for each remaining position available. I don't know if this is common, but that is why I am trying to get my written score higher. Thanks again for your reply, and if you have any other advice please let me know.

    Pass/Fail

Most if not all written tests are pass/fail. Are you passing? If so, why do you feel the need to get in the high 90's. Many candidates are under the impression that even though they pass the written score of 70+ that they will be a more viable candidate if they have a higher score. I'm not aware of any agency that scores that way.

The real secret is scoring as high as possible on the oral where 100% of your score to get hired.

If you need to pass the written, or need to sleep better at nigh with a score in the 90's, check our www.fireprep.com

For more on the oral check out the Firehouse.com Career Articles section by clicking here: http://cms.firehouse.com/content/sec...sp?sectionId=8 and www.eatstress.com

    Study Guides

I've only tested for a couple departments, and I alway seem to get an average score on the written. My goal is to get a score in the high 90's. Does anyone have any advice on what study guides to use or how to best prepare?
