  • I'm new so please bare with me, after reading the post from local 1014 class 156 started out with 56 and lost 6 graduating a total of 50 new members of Local 1014. Does anyone know why anyone would get kicked out or what would be the reason? Seems like all this waiting for a chance to work for the LACOFD why would anyone quit.

      • Hey guys I’m new here and finally able to post lol.

I was reading the comments from a few days ago and I have to agree on some points some others mentioned.

I don’t know how I felt about the interview. Felt rushed and awkward but I answered the questions to the best of my abilities. I’m pretty sure on one of the questions i got cut off mid sentence because I didn’t realize the timer was dwindling down. I was notified the next day via email that one of my questions wasn’t uploaded right apparently so I had to redo part of it via a special link I was sent. So i don’t even know if my interview still counted since I technically submitted after the deadline.

Definitely wish it was a in person interview as I felt like i wasn’t able to represent the best version of myself like I would in person but giving the circumstances of the pandemic we’re in, makes sense why things were set up that way.

I assume everyone from group 7 hasn’t heard anything yet? Also if I understood correctly I read this interview isn’t scored?!

Injury, not what they expected and they quit, failed skills or academics and were let go, so on and so on.

              • Well I guess the fewer who finish the academies the better for us who are waiting for a CJO. I only wish we knew how many were in each group, by knowing that we would have a idea on if we get a shot this time, or if we have to start the process over in a couple of years. And also does anyone know about the CPAT they cancelled mine for April, and mines expired.

If you need a CPAT, National Testing Network is doing CPAT testing. Otherwise it doesn't look like FCTC is doing CPAT's until June

                  • Hey everyone,

Does anyone know what to expect when it comes to the vision requirements? I have horrible vision and I would have to get LASIK. Would they hold your spot for a future academy if you didn’t pass the medical screening and were required to get correction surgery? Thanks and good luck to everyone here!

Getting your eyes lasered is pretty quick. Just do it anyway. I got mine last year. You’ll thank yourself.

I don't think they'll hold spots for anyone; if you don't pass, the ship will sail and you'll have to go through the whole process again. The expectation is you should be ready the day you apply, with the few exceptions of EMT by the December date in 2019, valid CPAT by appointment date, etc. The vision requirements are on the LACoFD FF Trainee job description, and with that info known from the get go, and knowing you have horrible vision, I would have gotten the procedure done much sooner.

Also I’ve heard they want some time to pass from surgery to medical appointment. I’ve heard 6 months I’ve heard a year, I don’t see why. Literally the next morning I was 20/20 and drove myself to the follow up exam. But it’s all at the discretion of the doctor I guess

Not sure. Given the uncontrollable circumstances, I'd see them having some flexibility. I would do everything you can to schedule to get it renewed, that way it shows you're making the effort.

I remember my doctor told me the flap wouldn’t completely heal for 6months-1 year. I was told no heavy lifting for a few weeks afterward. Maybe that’s why they have the rule, they don’t want the liability of complications. But it was crazy waking up the next morning with better than 20/20 vision. Best money I’ve spent in awhile.
