  • Explosive Ordnance Disposal to Firefighting

I am currently active duty Navy EOD and will be seperating from the military within the upcoming year. I am starting my EMT classes/certification this month and will follow up with my FF1/2 quals after that. I am trying to reach out to current firefighters that are involved in the hiring process, to see what, if any weight my current job and skills will hold when being looked at for employment. Is this something I should try and speak to? Or at the end of the day I?m am I just another candidate no different from anyone else starting out and should not rely on current experience to account for much. Any help is appreciated!

I will be 30 when I separate. Currently looking at the Northwest as I am originally from the area. WA or OR no preference on what areas of either state.

Yes I am state side now and won?t be leaving anywhere until I get out, so I do have time to apply, test etc. using the leave I have saved up. Thanks for the help sounds like solid advice.

Northwest. Well San Diego Fire runs the bomb disposal unit and I believe They are currently taking apps. Or they just finished up. Reach out and check out the Paddy Brown program. If you need help in that aspect let me know. Get onto type in Firefighter and look there and also Bigger depts are going to more up to your speed especially given all of your expertise that you have from the military. Just grab your emt ASAP and start applying around up there. Let me know if you need help

Shouldn?t be a problem I know of two people that left NSW for LAPD swat. Didn?t wait for a spot. They were Navy Seals. Bomb teams don?t leave people on the sidelines with 2 plus years of some of the most intensive training in the world and real world deployment experience because of ?seniority?. Reach out and see if that could be an in somewhere. I only Know of San Diego and Las Vegas On the west coast. I dont Know if there?s anything upper northwest.
