Did they have an official number for how many people took the test this year?

Does the written test score carry with you through the whole process to help you with the ranking or is it a pass/fail?

        Comment

        • #5
Yes. It matters. The test is not pass fail. It is used to rank you in the class if you are hired in order to determine your seniority number which is important throughout your career for vacation, travel between assignments, forced travel , special op team consideration, outside education, department offered classes, and station assignment.

            SRT,

Have you heard how many have made it to the agility or if they plan on doing a second academy like last process?

Around 200 are moving on to the agility test. Some have taken it already that were in town for the oral boards from long distances and out of state. I know they had a few no shows, and a couple of candidates did not pass the course. If you pass the agility I have not heard how they will further reduce the candidate pool. Second interview and background checks always reduce the number. I know they are looking to hire 12 for this class. I do not know if they will use this list to hire a second class for 2020. Budget for 2020 is still preliminary and contract negotiations are set to be settled by 7/1/19.

Any updates on the hiring process and when offers will be going out to candidates? Also was there any thing gained for new hires in the up coming contract?

I wouldn't worry about what new hires are gaining in the new contract. Focus should be on completing the academy and making it through the 1 year probation period if offered a position. Contract isn?t settled. Conditional offers should go out soon. 10 recruits are being hired. Start date is August 5th , 2019.

This is wonderful! I wish I had known about this forum throughout the application process. Has there been any updates on when the candidates will find out if they are one of the ten. Also, I was curious about the "conditional" offers. What type of conditions are generally given with new hires?

Offers should be out in the next week or two. Conditional offers are based on completing your medical physical, passing drug test, and accepting the position along with the ability to make the academy start date and timeline.

Physically how demanding is the academy? A few of us that are still in the pool of candidates went to the military fire academy and had 2 mediocre challenges. They were dummy drags in under 8 minutes and a 200ft LDH drag and hydrant hook up in under 4 minutes. After looking online it didn't look as if live fires were a part of the academy, is this true? I really appreciate your time and information.

The academy is physically demanding. Not sure which academy you are referencing in your post , but you will be more challenged than you ever have before. The agility test is performed again the first week with expectations being time is improved. You will be tested again periodically to make sure improvements are made. Physical fitness will be par for the course daily. Many of your PT drills are done in fully gear. Live fire is part of the training . Usually happens before recruits hit the streets, or it is performed with your assigned company once on the streets. Performing under pressure is also a big part of the academy. You will complete many timed drills and skills test to see actually how you measure up, and where you may need improvement. The academy is not a walk in the park. It is not unusual for one to two recruits not to make it out of the academy .Work hard, listen more than you talk , and bring a positive humble attitude.

My apologies, I was referring to the Air Force Academy, but all branches of military go through that academy. They had evaluations about 3-4 times a week. Most were moderately challenging physically, but a few were quite challenging. I was just curious if it was similar.
