I wouldn't begin to know where to find out how many they plan to hire. I only know that they have continually run paramedic classes for the past 2-3 years, sometimes even concurrently. We know there is a plan to expand the number of ALS units in the city, at least with transport units for now. We also have an assistant medical director and some EMS leadership who would like to see the standards raised for providers. With that is going to come a more challenging onboarding process.

This is a good opportunity for those who know what DC is about to come join. Just come physically and mentally ready to be a fireman and a paramedic, or it may not go well for you.

Thanks again for the info. From far out of state and just trying to gauge how the process will flow and the chances of being hired. I like both fire and patient care so I'm ready for whatever they want to throw my way.

      Thanks again!

I saw that the FF/PM position is open again. Does anyone know if they are throwing out applications from this last application process that closed last month? I wonder why they are opening another one so soon after the last one just closed. Multiple classes maybe? Anyone have any insight? Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but if I were in your shoes I would resubmit. Either that or call the recruiting captain and see what he says to do. My understanding is they are not getting enough applicants, and they will be continually hiring for the foreseeable future.

I re-applied just to be sure but was told by HR today that there was ?no need for me to re-apply?. Sounds like there just aren?t enough Paramedics to go around. I am going to call Recruiting tomorrow and double check though.

Just called and spoke to DC HR and they said they had no idea when things would get rolling or when would be contacted. I then called DC Fire Recruitment and they were super helpful. The Sgt I spoke to said they are finishing up pulling apps of those that they are going to process and that the process would get going in the next couple weeks. He also was able to look up my name and told me he had my info and the list info right in front of him. We verified my info through my phone number etc, so I know he was looking at either my file or a list of some sort.... He then told me that my name/info was being forwarded on to the Recruitment Officer for the hiring process. Things are moving and it sounds like once things get started, it will go fast from there. Hope this helps guys.

I got a call today confirming information on my resume. Was told that they received paperwork from HR, I guess the process is starting to move along.

He did not say, he said they just got all of the info from HR today. My roommate who works for DC says that they are projecting this next class to start the first pay period of January.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. January?! I?m not sure if that would even be possible with the holidays and everything, but what do I know, haha. Could start to go pretty fast here.
