  • If anyone finds out if residency requirements pertains to those still on the list please post it here. Im coming from out of state and scored mid 200’s. This next hiring would have been my shot. Hate to see it get taken away over a “1 year residency requirement”.
And a thankyou to everyone who has continually put out information.

I'm in the same boat. I really don't think they can change the qualifications on the current list, unlesss they created a new hiring list and took this one out of eligibility

The City and the IAFF extended the contract one year because of covid. If youre hired before the next contract (July of next yr) you would fall under the 5 year residency requirement (Live in city 5 yrs than move) When I got my hire letter, it specifically said 5 yr res requirement. That was a big influence for me taking the job esp. with young kids.

Awesome, so us out of state hires should be good for this year?

          • Any word on this potential residency requirement change? Are they just targeting PD first, or does it look like this is a definite change with the new contract that's due June next year? I been searching and searching, and what I found is that its in the Mayors office now, and it looks like he has been wanting to eliminate the 5 year residency rule. Any info helps. Thanks in advance everyone. If I figure out any more info, I will post on here

I called the union, they said that it hasn’t been passed yet. They said they don’t want it to pass because it’s hard to find qualified paramedics in the city, that’s why they were trying to eliminate the 5 yr rule. We just have to wait and see if it passes or not.

As for the $5 mil budget cut, they said they already adjusted things and their is still 2 classes planned in the pipeline. Fingers crossed on the residency requirement not passing.

Do they run 1 class at a time, or multiple at once? If its just one, is there usually gaps between classes, or is it back to back? I'm hoping to make myself available again by Jan 1st or sooner, and praying I don't lose my chance. And about the residency, I can't see the members not fighting hard when it comes to the residency, because having that opportunity to move out of the city after 5 years is huge. And thanks for the quick response. This popping up made a stressful time even more stressful. Stay safe

                    • Yes, 197 graduates the 13th (at the academy with no family bc of covid) we go to fire side in late Aug. As far as I have heard the 199 is still planned for sept/oct. They actually had a medic orientation tonight for a medic class that starting soon. I thinks thats def. good news theyre still hiring as planned. Ill keep ear hustling and keep you guys in the loop. I know it sucks waiting!

I’m in academy now. Only rumor is that 199 might be starting in September or October. But everything is speculation in academy. So nobody knows yet.

                        • Have they started orientation for the fall class? I'm in the mid 300's and I want to gauge when I should anticipate the orientation (assuming they make it to my number this year).

Secondly, when do they do the height and weight measuring? Is that part of the medical exam or at the start of the academy? Anybody have numbers for the PFT?

                          Sorry for so many questions.

Im in the mid 200’s and I have not received anything as gar as orientation for Fall. Can anyone confirm this? Or has anyone heard anything regarding future Class 199?
I am also curious about height/weight and PFT. I have heard different things from people who are currently in/graduated so far.
