It is very possible that the state or states which you try to be certified in will not certify you because of the record.
I would check the EMS laws in the state which you want to be certified and work in, before I took that long class.Stay Safe and Well Out There....

I would say find out for sure the level of charge you were convicted with
Felony may be a deal breaker
Not sure if you want to be paramedic only and work for a private ambulance

Between the age and the assault, a FD is probably out of the question. The age isn't as much a career killer as the assault.
But, if you are able to be certified as a medic, which is a big if, you could probably land a job on a private ambulance doing transfers and stuff.
There's nothing wrong with that either. It's a great line of work (just not necessarily as exciting)

Well I do appreciate all the reponses,It is really sad that after 16 years sociaty says someone still hasnt reformed themselves.I also live in a nieghborhood were we have 1 volunteer ff,2 paid ff and 1 state police officer. The volunteer is about 80 lbs overweight,1 paid ff is a drunk, the other paid ff seems like a great guy and the state police officer cheats on his wife.myself i am in great shape and a family guy that dosent drink or use drugs,so I guess if we are so eager to pass over people like me we just have to live with what is left over!!

If you have a felony on your record, most states of not WILL NOT certify you in any EMS position.
Not too many fire departments will hire you either.
Your best bet is improve your contracting business.
See Virginia's rules on Felonies.

Well I dont really no if it is a felony it happened when I was 18 years old,I got into a fight it just happen to be in a public place and the overzeless police officer charged me with anything he could I should have fought it but are system is not designed that way there is no guilty or inocense you take a good plea and move on it has never affected me up until now.And I do agree I think I am probalally wasting my time, and I do commend everyone who has never gotten into any troulble, but I will corect you on this I no alot and we see it everyday fire fighters, police officers and others in public services lying, cheating, stealing, abusing drugs and acohol and commiting other criminal acts I just wonder all the times that they are sweep under the rug by a higher up officer that is supossed to have morals, and all those that I would be competing with most of them did worse stuff then me they just didnt get caught, and your right it's life it is bull**** but whatever,
