i know it is arendy vary hard to get in to FDNY it has been i deam of mine to work for them sence i was in kindergrdin when 9/11 occured i am curintly a explorer with my local deptment which cover the most ground in the state of GA with this back round will it halp me at all in getting a job with them even tho im not an explore with them on another note if i join them as a emt first then get paramdic will that also incrase my shot a a job and will they trun me down becuse i do have bad hand wrighting becuse of my lerning disability and my OCD and ADHD and im am srroy for my spelling if you can help me thank you

Kenyon,

being an explorer will not help you get on the FDNY. Its a civil service test so only how well you do during the testing will get you on the job. They do not look at your past fire history or certifications or anything like that. Good luck when you do take the exam in like 8 years from now. You can join EMS and take a promotional exam to be a fireman. Some guys go that route but its not a gaurantee

Never give up your dream. Keep at it until it comes true. I'm going to sound cliche here but I'm a firm believer that if you work hard enough for something you really want anything is possible. I know practice exams are available online or to purchase from a bookstore. Start studying up and good luck my friend!

Just an FYI they only test every 4 year and right now their hiring is all F'ed up. Also when you test you will be going against about 30,000 people or more. If you want to learn more about FDNY and their hiring check out FDNY 6019 thread lots of useful info on there. Good luck in all you do and good luck becoming a firefighter with FDNY.

Is this for realzies? You do realize your ONLY punctuation was the question mark in the subject line at the beginning????

In the event that this is:
Being from another state will not help you.
Being an explorer will not help you.
Being a firefighter elsewhere will not help you.
Being a EMT or Paramedic will not help you.

There is a written test that should grade you on spelling at the least. So if I were able to pass anything on to you, it would be to; a) Stay in school. b) Get all of the help you can to be able to help you write, type and spell words correctly and be able to put them into grammatically correct order, complete with punctuation.

Do that and you'll have a good start on life and be able to do just about whatever you want to do in life. And maybe, just maybe, you might be able to take the test here and achieve a competitive score.

That's not true. You only get extra points if your father died on the job .

The family legacy credit is only for those whose parent died on the job. No points are granted for just having a living relative on the job.

Agree completely. Don't be discouraged by exam process of FDNY. If you want it bad enough you can reach it. Fortunately for you you're still young. Work your *** off in school and put in whatever extra time you need in order to excel.

NEW YORK CITY RESIDENCY CREDIT: Five points will be added to the final exam score of those candidates who qualify for New York City Residency Credit. To be eligible for the residency credit, a candidate must achieve
a passing score on the examination, and must maintain a continuous period of residency in New York City.


Candidates interested in seeking the residency credit must apply by
following the instructions which will be provided on the date of the written test. Merely supplying a New York City address on the application form for this examination does not serve as a request for the residency credit. Requests for residency credit must be received by DCAS before the eligible list is established.



Eligibility for the residency credit will be investigated by the Fire Department of New York. Candidates will be required to produce written verification of the candidate’s New York City.The documents presented must represent the period of time for which you are claiming City residency. Inability to produce the required verification of residencdocuments for the continuous period of
residency will result in the forfeiture of the New York City Residency Credit and an adjustment in the final score.


Documents that will be investigated to prove New York City residency will include, but are not limited to, an “original” lease or mortgage in the candidate’s name plus one of the following (also in the candidate’s name):
telephone bills; gas, electric or water utility bills; checking or savings account statements; cable TV bills; or credit card statements. The Fire Department of New York reserves the right to accept other documents, in lieu of the above, under special circumstances which validate various living arrangements, as determined by the Department.


As in the case of any intentional misrepresentation of a material fact on an employment application, candidates who claim New York City residency credit and who are determined to have intentionally misrepresented facts concerning New York City residency shall be disqualified and their names shall be removed from the eligible list, and they may be subject to criminal sanctions.


VETERAN’S PREFERENCE CREDITS AND LEGACY CREDITS:

The New York State Civil Service Law provides that additional points can be added to the final score of a candidate who is, or by the date of appointment
expects to be, an honorably discharged veteran or disabled veteran of the Armed Forces of the United States who has served during a time of war, as specified in New York State law; a candidate whose parent has died while
engaged in the discharge of his or her duties as a Police Officer or Firefighter; or a candidate who is the sibling of a Police Officer or Firefighter who was killed in the service of New York City as a result of the World Trade
Center attack on September 11, 2001. To be eligible for any of these credits, a candidate must achieve a passing score on the examination. This is only an overview; specific conditions and instructions for requesting Veteran
Preference Credits and/or Legacy Credits.
