I'll disagree having a job or rather not having can make a really nice plus suck. If you really want to do a job like firefighting you have to go were the market is. TX civil service rules mean that vets get 5 point thats huge. And although there are many cities that require you to be certed up some large departments (Fort Worth, Arlington, Dallas) don't. Financially a lot of places are hurting around the country. But overall I would say TX is a very hot fire job market right now.

Find a place you'd be happy calling "home" and go from there. All else will fall into place.

Look all over the USA for jobs, as there are some locations now taking applications.
Some require no firefighter or ems training as they will train you if you are hired. Some, on the other hand, require you to have so many hours of this and that and be certified in EMS as well as FF.
The east coast pays more but the cost of living can be higher, but not always the case.
Good luck on your endeavor.

I take it you have never been a firefighter
Check this web site weekly, as jobs are added all the time
Most want you to be tx certified and emt with paramedic certified
For ff cert here is a way to do it online with two weeks of classroom

If you can get your emt where you are at as long as tx recognizes it

FF in Texas!
Hey fellas,
New guy here. Quick bio I am a military Vet 2000-2004. I got out and got a degree in business then went into sales for a few year's and got layed off. I am looking into becoming a FF.
If someone that is more experienced that me can help me with a few question's regarding the job market in Texas. I am single, no fam to support. Is the market in Texas good? In other words, if you were new and looking to become a FF with no attachment's is there a better place to move in the US? I am not opposed to go overseas either for work or a contract work.
Appreciated any knowledge from the vet's!Tags: None
