Anybody know anything about them, they have an opening for Battalion Cheif and thought that was interesting because they are opening this up outside the department.

Apache Junction is a sworn district that serves the city of Apache Junction and the community of Gold Canyon. They operate out of four stations at the moment. They are suppose to begin construction on station 255 sometime this year. I believe they are still running 4-man crews, 2 engines, 2 ladders, 1 brush, 1 battalion, and a TRV unit. Southwest Ambulance holds the CON in that area. I believe they run about 10000 calls a year district wide. Most calls are obviously EMS, but they do have a very active TRT team with canals and much mountain terrain. They have automatic/mutual aid agreements with Mesa Fire and Rural/Metro to the west, Rural/Metro to the south, and Queen Valley to the East. They are part of a very active union in IAFF #2260. The community itself is very diverse. I wouldnt want to take a guess at the median income, but there is alot of low income to middle class homes with some higher end homes in the more rural areas. Ive been hearing rumors of a hiring process for several years now, but I believe they are probably waiting for the completion of station 265. Central Arizona College has a campus there as well as AJ HIgh School among other schools. I have met many guys/girls there and they have all been totally cool. I highly recommend this department. It was one of my top choices before I got hired full time elsewhere. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Arizona departments seem to open up the BC position quite often to outside applicants. In this case I would imagine it has something do with growth, without being able to hire new recruits quite yet. Thats just what I would guess though. Let me know how things go or if you have any other questions.
