      6. CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT’S REPORT [Discussion]

      REPORT FROM CHIEF OF DEPARTMENT

Report on current issues, activities and events within the Department, including Fiscal year 2010-2011 budget.

Chief Hayes-White greeted the Commissioners and reminded then that they can contact either Mark Corso or Chief Fields directly if they would like to get specific information on the budget.

On hiring, Chief Hayes-White reported that some offers have been made in a class of 12 H-3 Level One candidates. Medical and background checks are being conducted on those individuals. Level One is the entry level EMT position needed to boost staffing in the EMS division. Once those members have graduated from training, approximately 15 seated H-3 Level One EMTs who have certifications and have met requirements will be promoted to Level Two.

In early spring, a class of approximately 36 H-2 firefighters off of the eligible list of 5200 will be selected.

Chief Hayes-White is awaiting the results of the two part H-50 Assistant Chief exam administered in August and October. The Department of Human Resources is expected to send the results before the end of the month. The eligible list will be posted for one week for an inspection period before adoption. 23 Battalion Chiefs took the exam.

The Department of Human Resources will be working on development and administration of the H-30 Captains examination for the spring or early summer of 2011. The Department is identifying subject matter experts to go over the skills, knowledge and abilities that are required
