Hey NicNac - Im in Frederick myself and am also looking in the area. From what I've read here is the local break-down:

Frederick County - Tested in Feb. Probably not hiring off this list due to County budget struggles.

Montgomery County - again, just tested a few months ago. Looks like they cut the hiring because of county budget issues. The failure of the ambulance fee to pass in the elections has possibly even put some current jobs on the chopping block.

Anne Arundel County - just graduated their biggest recruit class ever (114 memebers) in May of 2009 - haven't heard about future plans, but I'd imagine with a class that size it won't be soon.

Prince George's county - recruiting process going on right now, too late to put in an app.

Baltimore County - Same as PG

Carroll County - all volunteer from what I can tell.

Howard County - haven't heard anything. If they really are testing in April, thats the first I've heard of it. I've ridden there and really like the attitude/culture of the department.

If I were you, I'd check out northern VA - Arlington is open for another couple days. You missed the boat on Loudoun. Good luck to you, and if you hear any additional info on Howard let us know!!

      more info on hoco hiring

As far as I know from my career staff at my department in april they will start hiring, I am not sure when they will start accepting applications. I know that they are not hiring anymore career firefighters but if you are a male your best shot is to come into the hiring process with your P already and you are almost guarenteed a spot, as well as women of ethnicity ad men of ethinicity have a more likely chance since they are trying to fulfill are requirements sad but true...
once i get a confirmed yes no.. i will def give you more information the site that they have now has no ones current info i have already called myself..

      best reguards

What do you mean they aren't hiring anymore career firefighters? You mean currently? Anyways, thanks for the head's up. Sounds like they'll start hiring again right when I'm finishing up my paramedic program.

          yea they are not

they have too many career firefighters right now and are in need of paramedics so chances are if you apply and say that you want to be on fire side the you will be pushed down the ladder per say in the hiring process those who are swaying towards the medic side are getting hired.

So it's been 2 1/2 months since this thread was commented on. Anyone have any info on MD jurisdictions opening anytime soon?

I'm guessing FredCo and MoCo won't be opening anytime soon, but what about Howard or Anne Arundel...?

I'm wrapping up my paramedic program in 77 days and taking national registry in 83.

Anyone hear anything on Howard County recently? If I'm not mistaken, the last time they tested was late spring in 2009. Any info is appreciated (even rumors... Ha!)

haven't heard anything on howard...pretty sure they're budget isn't that great right now.

PG and baltimore city should have tests within the next 6 months to a year. Not sure about anywhere else. DC should test relatively soon...loudoun VA will open up within the next year most likely. that's about all i know

Just to clarify, Montgomery County is hiring a pop-out class right now. You have to have FFI+2, EMTB, Hazmat ops.
