I have to agree with most of the postings.
Just putting a city's name doesn't really cut it as we don't know where a poster is or what town or city they are referring to.
We can't hold your hand all the time. New folks have to use some more initiative and complete the question so guys can help out without any thoughts of where it this place he is talking about.
What if you do get your application exception and sit for the exam? You are in competition with many others for a job.Stay Safe and Well Out There....

Austin, Tx
ksl15,
Click on this link http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/fire/recruitment/ and fill-out your contact information.
Last time I was out there on a "work vacation" I visited Marble Falls FD, Horseshoe Bay FD and a few other FDs. Marble Falls was going to hire based on (2) retirements (haven't heard about them taking apps. yet). Burnet FD I've heard hires occasionally so you may want to check with them.
Travis County CSD recently had a few of their districts taking apps. but I don't know if they're still open for apps.
Check the Texas Commission on Fire Protections website at http://www.tcfp.state.tx.us/ and click on Employment on the left side gray bar.
Hope to see ya at Austin's testing... Stay safe.Last edited by mikeyboy411; 09-23-2010, 11:37 AM."Be LOUD, Be PROUD..... It just might save your can someday when goin' through an intersection!!!!!"

Just throwing this out there but,
When I was first getting into the fire service I was always told by everyone that I talked to and they said:
Don't just apply at big departments or a specific department that are "close to home"
Don't put all your eggs into one basket
Test & apply EVERYWHERE you can!
Good luck*Always leave the job a little better for the next guy*Comment

i dont agree what so ever... just because you are in competition with someone or many people for that matter, doesn't mean you can't help them out. I would have to say this guy is taking initative in asking, wow he didnt say texas.... big deal just answer him or ask him if he means texas. There is a huge problem with dick measuring and people who think they are the sh*t and really are no better than anyone else on here. and capt old time if you read the forum again one person is agreeing with you, the rest are trying to help the kid out. ... guess what no one cares if you have something negative to say. just help people out. that is what the firemen's community is about.
and p.s. its not exception its accepted...
You don't know me or anything about me, likewise I know nothing about you. But with you rude snide remarks I have you figured out.
My friend from the northern part of our state, which is a staff chief officer in his department made the comment about what state is this burg located. Do a google search and you will find other Austins in the USA!
The poster don't indicate anything on their whereabouts so I guess my your thoughts we all whould just guess at it huh?
This job is about guessing anything. You have to know or you may be dead!
You have all the experience so you are in charge to help out all new boys and girls.
Yes I am a dick by the way. I earned everything I have while I was on the job.
Again no one is going to hold the kid's hand once he leaves home. Firefighting isn't a baby sitting job.
` BTW they are over here!

Ok, so I agree I dont have a clue who you are. You, however, haven't figured me out. First of all I know all about not guessing or my *** would be dead, thats why I'm a Sgt in the United States Army and have lived through being deployed and was promoted to Sgt in just over 2 1/2 yrs in the army. So trust me I know about life or death situations in a place a lot more dangerous than a fire. And I absolutly respect everything you have earned from the job. Being a dick, however, isn't ok because of what you have earned. Thats just an excuse for someone who thinks they are a big shot or a know it all. I'm not saying you are a big shot but the way you talk and type, which is very poor and hard to understand (re-read your last post), you come off as a big shot. oh and in that quick google of Austin's in the United States, how many of these other Austin's are there that people are lining up at the door to be a firefighter...? common sense goes along way. Also one could afford such a simple assumption on something that is as simple and non-life threatening as a city.-Firefighting is a lifestyle NOT a career-Comment
