I'm good with a third of the people turning in the questioner.

Grand total just shy of 900. Unclear at this time what they're doing about the applications without the questionnaires, getting conflicting reports. If you get a test packet in the mail, then you done did good. Looking to start 25 recruits sometime late Feb/early March and then another school a couple months later with 12 + any vacancies from the previous school. Being that there is usually about 1/4 - 1/3 dropout rate in any given school, I'm sure the second school will start more than 12.
And no, I don't WORK for Hiring Division....I can promise you my source is very reliable though

If you can't run 1.5 miles in 15 mins and have confined space issues, I suggest working on it before the PAT. I don't know if they are doing the run this year, but there's been a much needed talk about doing it for the PAT. But in general running and CP are big issues with people in recruit school. Finding a gym that has Cross Fit or something similar will definitely help you get ready for the PT portion of recruit school.
Good luck.Last edited by jeremymader; 10-02-2010, 02:50 PM.

I took the written for Montgomery County a few months ago and passed that. Sadly not long after the hiring process was scrapped. They use the CPAT and I was training for that. I would do the stair master religiously with a weighted vest. Is there anywhere I can go to see what kind of training I need to do to prepare for the test?
Also, are you saying the most difficult part of the academy is the physical portion? I was thinking that the whole school portion would be the hardest.

The current PAT is sort of a joke IMO. I know they are changing it this time around, but it was a hose drag, walking a pitched roof with a chain saw, hoisting a roll of hose, dummy drag, using a sand bag and stepping up and down on a step, taking off and putting on hydrant caps and something else I'm forgetting. It had no cardio test which showed on the first day of PT testing when the schools started. LCFR wants to use CPAT, but they are trying to find a space they can leave it set up with out having to take it down and get re-certified every time they do a test.
The academics can be hard if you have no background in Fire or EMS. The EMT-B is much harder than the State. You must pass everything with an 80%

That's the first thing the Moco test had, that 3 minuted with 90 pounds strapped to your back was no joke.

The first part of the LCFR agility test will be running up and down our training tower 3 or 4 times with a 75lb vest.Last edited by MANOFSTEEL; 10-03-2010, 01:37 PM.
