Mount pleasent SC/ James Island SC

I applied for James Island and haven't heard anything. I tried contacting HR today, but she is out until 9/29. Anyone know anything? It said it was open until filled, but had a deadline on the application period??? Kind of odd... Their FD website has some congratulatory spot about their two "new" firefighters, and the site was updated recently. I really doubt they would've been able to hire the new guys and get them on the website, and still leave the application period open.

I'm appling to both Mt. Pleasant FD and James Island FD in South Carolina. My question is; does anybody that works for any of the dept. tell my about the dept. what are the pros/ Cons( if any), how you like working for thedept., ect.
