I have heard from someone inside of SCCFD that "a lot of guys are retiring" not sure how many a lot is, but it sounds like the class could be a good size. another good question is how many medics vs emts they are planning on hiring because they could probably easily fill a few recruit classes with just medics. any insight?

California state law is laid off firefighters have first preference to other jobs in the state as long as they can pass all the hiring steps. But I've seen some candidates who have been laid off with the attitude that they were owed other jobs. Guess what? They failed their oral boards with their attitude. I talked to some of these guys at a large city test. I had to shake my head._____________________________________________

This exam is open to the first 60 qualified applicants. Primary preference will be given to individuals who are on the California Firefighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee’s Displaced Firefighter list and others recently laid off; Non-displaced Firefighter applicants may be considered if an insufficient number of displaced Firefighter applications are received...Possession of a valid Layoff or Impending Layoff notice dated after November 1, 2008 for initial primary hiring preference.
Hopefully those openings soak up some of the SJ layoffs
