If your department HAS an operating frequency it does not use often (IE: An old low band channel, fire police channel, etc) perhaps your department's leadership would allow you to use that in a land-search situation. Of course not EVERY explorer needs one. One per team or, if you are doing a line-search, just the commander. But really, talk-a-bouts are the devil... In an emergency like a land-search, a portable will work wonders. But for regular community events, a Talk-a-bout should do good enough.

    >Thanks about that because we have alot of hills and montains around hir
Iny way afr just got new radios iny ways maybe thell let us use them

If I ever find out this kid is the one searching for me while I'm lost, I will intentionally get more lost so he can't find me. I'll eat bugs for another day. In the long run, I think I'd be safer.

Dont encourage them. We aren't here to look "badass" we are here to get the job done.

Hey hey, now, he didnt say he wants to track down people, as a former explorer, i know radios can be a very vital tool. I'd recommend the Motorola Talk A Bouts, about a 2 mile range and they wont get mixed up with the VHF and repeater stuff the department carries. If you guys want to be extra bad ***, they sell shoulder mics (the little black boxes that are two way, speaker and mic) you can plug into them. Either way, dont go all out, because you wont really use them enough to warrant a 250$ handset. and if i know one thing about radios and emergency personel...they are usually gonna get junked pretty quickly.

    Some guidance

You might want to include buying a hand gun just in case you come across the "perp" that abducted that child you are searching for!!!!

    Well....................NOT!!!!!!!

Why do Explorers need radios? If you need something, just buy the low freq. ones you can buy at most electronics stores.
