  • What's your story???

Hey there!! i'm just curious why people join the Jr. and explorer programs and what your story is!
I've been trying to join an explorer program for months! but where i live they don't have one! My sister was the leader for the explorers in Freeport, ME. but I live too far away from there! so the other day i saw a poster in school about a Jr. FF post they're starting in a town right next to mine! so i'm waiting for info from the chief. i joined the Civil Air Patrol about a year ago, only because there really isn't anything else around here. But now that the post might be starting i'm wicked excited!!
I plan on being a career firefighter. I'm graduating a year early from high school to go to college where i'll be studying fire science and paramedicine.

      Pt 2

I plan on becoming a Professional firefighter also. And somewhere along the way I will probably take EMT-B class.

If you plan on being a career FF, don't "probably" take EMT, take it. EMT is a minimum requirement for many departments these days.
These are my opinions, not those of my career department, my volunteer company, or my affiliates. And by the way, I'm not a Junior.

Buy me a drink, sing me a song, take me as I come 'cause I can't stay long.

Why I wanted to become a Fire Fighter is for many reasons.

I have wanted to for so long, mainly for a few reasons:

I've explained this a thousand times: I have had like 7 family members that were Fire Fighters, including my grandfather, father, uncles, etc. etc.. So I grew up around it, since I was born you could say. "It runs in the blood "

Plus regardless of family involvement, all the aspects of Fire Suppression interested me.

          So whoo hoo!

I first joined because I wanted to go into arson investigation, but after a few years of traning and ride-hours, I have changed my priorites to become a career FF/Paramedic, and a reserve police officer on the side. I have been involved with 3 explorer posts for about 7 years each.

Well... pretty many things made me join.

1)I enjoy helping people, I WANT to help people, and I thought since I always wanted to be a Fire Fighter since I was a little kid, I joined to helpl

              2) 9/11 had a big impact on my family and community. I wanted to be a fire fighter after 9/11, but I don't know why.

              3) I knew I could do it, it would be fun, and my friend was a junior at my local department.

I really enjoy it at the Fire Company, its a great experience and it can be fun too...
