I am just curious as to how many juniors out there are also licensed HAM radio operators. And if so have you ever had to use your skills and/or equipment in an incident or disaster situation?

Never used my ham stuff in a disaster situation, 'cause I'm already there with either the FD or my search and rescue team. I honestly don't take advantage of my license much... it's just there so I can communicate with my SAR team when we can't use the gov't freq's. We have a simplex channel that we use for casual conversation. It's programmed into everyone's radio and isn't used for mission critical info.
I use my equipment for both ham and SAR. Like I said, I don't talk much on ham freq's. The "lingo" that a lot of ham operators use just gets to me, and they get annoyed because I use the technical training I've recieved and confuse them. (Gotta love that phonetic alphabet! Apple, Banana, Cat, Dog, Elephant...... feel like I'm back in kindergarten learning my letters). I understand, though, that it's really a hobby and people don't need to use proper procedures... it just bugs me is all.
10-4 I am a Ham Radio Operator and yes I have used my Ham Radio equipment during a diaster (tornado)... I was net control that night when the tornado formed in my county and destroyed pretty much a small city...... Call here is KG4LHQ
