ok dex and wfd im just saying what if your in a building and there is an exlposion and your wearing your goggles and a piece of steel comes flying at your face i somewhat doubt that goggles will protect you. All im saying is even though they may be the best they cant protect against everything.

ok maybe so but what says goggles arent going to stop it either
    OSHA!

Take my word for it,an explorer in another town got a metal splinter lodged in his tear gland a few years ago because he thought bourkes provided protection!

If you're wearing them properly, nothing should get in between your goggles and your face to get you in the eye.

The faceshields are a pain, and Bourkes don't cut it. I have ESS Extricators and Bourkes on my helmet. Not like you can see out of my Bourkes anyways !! They are very "Crusty". And DFD is correct, you are required to have a primary eye protection(safety glasses, goggles) when using bourkes OR a faceshield.

on my dept issued metro 660, i had a face shield. on my dept issued N6A leather, i had a face shield. all of the new dept helmets are coming with goggles.

the faceshield is not approved by NFPA if it is used by itself, only as a secondary means of protections. bourkes don't satisfy the NFPA requirement either.

The faceshield is nice when it is being used. it flips down, and it isn't affect by eye glasses. when its not being used, it's a huge pain in the ***. mine always ended up falling down at the worst time. oh, and the face shield just looks sooooooooo wrong on a leather helmet.

my new personal leather new yorker is going to have bourkes, as well as detachable ESS II goggles. if money isn't a problem for you, get the bourkes for the look, and the goggles for protection. of you can just get the bourkes, and carry a pair of safety glasses in your pocket.

I have goggles on mine, I love them but they seal right above my eyebrows and when I sweat, it drips down into them. But they offer great protection.

All you that think bourkes/faceshields are the cats meow are going to be in world of hurt and blindness and up the no insurance coverage creek with out a paddle when something pile drives its way into you eye! If you use faceshield/bourkes you need supplemental eye protection to comply with NFPA-1971,2000 edit.

Use a pair of safety glasses or goggles to comply with NFPA 1971 and retain your vision till the end of your carrer.

People I dont make this stuff up!

I have a faceshield on mine, department issued helmet. A new standard set by NFPA recommends that all helmets be used with goggles, if I'm not mistaken.

    Faceshields all the way

I have never had goggles. But I have had filp downs
And I didnt like them. Now we have the faceshields
I think they are much better compared to the flip downs at least.

I dont know how it worked, my facesheild fit down and the bourke flip downs were about 3millimeters from the front sheild, the goggles were ESS Interzone II, they were detachable, i stored them in the rear of my helmet. I did this because sometimes I would need the facesheild, or the bourkes, or the goggles
