Interior Practices

Does your department allow to practice with the interior guys with SCBA on? Just curious...

Our department today had organized a practice at the Jamestown Fire Department training grounds. It was great. We all went through the maze with all sorts of hard crap in it with our masks blacked out. Then we did a mask confidence thing, the obstacle course, and just trying to suck every last bit of air out of are bottles and get used to how much time on average we would have for a bottle. Then we got to do a two story multiple room search in the training tower.

It was a great day and I had to come home and take a nap. If you people arent allowed to use SCBA in your department... really start asking why you cant wear them in "cold" practice sessions and stuff.

Unfortunately for many states, OSHA makes it illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to breathe off of an SCBA. They can wear the pack and and the mask but can not clip in the air. This includes incidents AND training exercises.

Even if you are not an OSHA state, your state or dept may have it's own rules about it.

hmmm really, because like many times when we have done drills with scba's we breathe the air.

We use SCBA too,infact I broke down and bought my own SCOTT mask so I dont got to use those mungy masks in the spare gear room.

even if you arent a OSHA state the state health dept usually has the same rules as OSHA
