Attn. Eng. 3,Eng.3 respond to 2451 Maple drive nieghbor reports an unusal odor comeing from nieghbors house.

Upon arrival you see a single story house,garage attached with childrens toys out front, the neighbor says every often they get a strange odor comeing from that house when the wind blows there way.

So you walk to the front door and knock and yell "Fire Dept."
-- no answer,knock again no answer. Now you look in the side windows and see the house is dark.
You think that someone may be hurt or trapped so you have a ff get a set of irons and you force open the door and as you open the door you notice a glass on the floor of what looks like water has been knocked over into a dish bakeing soda and then you notice something quciky move in the shadows on the floor but cant make out what it is.

Ok STOP!
Tell me what you would do from here on out.

You have most likely stumbled in to some sort of Meth Lab (explained by the odors). Get out....! call the cops...

I question whether I would have even forced in the door. Car in garage or driveway? What makes you sure (or think) someone is there? Not sure there is justification for forcing your way in. What does the neighbor say about the family? You mention kids toys...does neighbor ever see kids?? When was last time they were seen home? Do they routinely see the neighbors come out for a smoke and then go back in?

In all seroiusness Call the cops b4 u do anything... you dont know what is going on, i would see if the cops had any records on the residence. where there previous problems? wait untill they get there b4 u go bursting in on dinner or someones heated session.

Well you were right,you walked right into a drug lab. The idea of this was to see how many Jr's would have waltzed right in looking for someone. The childrens toys were red hearings and also children dont drive so there may not have been cars there. As for the nieghbor,there just a fence and that odor is just bugging his bbq.

The glass of "water" was acuteally hydrochloric acid and that "bakeing soda" was syinide tabs, the glass is placed in the doors path so that the acid gets bumped into the tabs and quickly produces hydrogen synide gas,which smells like bitter almonds but was explained to me your dead before you smell it.

That thing moveing in the shadows was a poisonus snake on a rope. Its not a pet its another booby trap smart producers usally try to import breeds like the Black Mamba or Pit Vipers becuase they dont usally go into a defensive posture like a rattler or Cobra's dance,dont make noise to alert you like a rattlers rattle or a Cobras hiss. They stike quick and are extremely deadly usallay >3 minutes and small town hospitals usally wont stock such exotic anti-veniens.

Also I said in the shadows because I wanted to see how many would flick on the light to see it and blow them selves up from the explosive vapors. The next most popular booby trap is big mean dog that has been de-barked so you dont hear him running up on you to attack you.

Captstan is dead right--turn right around and run away and call the State Police its there job from there.

A Lt.(one of many) is a tech on the State Haz-Mat team and gave us a lecture one night about a year ago.
It was very eye opening and wasnt like your average D.A.R.E stay off drugs thing. He went over extensivley on the different methods on how to make it, different chemicals involved,booby traps,flammable/explosive hazards,firefighter/law enforcement hazards,told us how exactly it made and the different stages of production,long term risks and implacations for you and the area etc. it was a 4 1/2 hour lecture and very good.

Unless there is an obvious immediate life hazard we do not ever force entry without the presence of police. It protects us against claims of theft and it may protect us in situations similar to the scenario here.

The odor at a family residence my first thought imediatley ent to it being a suspected meth lab
I evacuate the neighborhood, Call for a full Hazourdous Materials response as well as inform Law Enforcement officals
