  • A Stupid/maybe funny story

This is a call that came in 2 weeks ago for an Automatic Fire Alarm on chestnut Avenue. As you may or may not know my town has 2 stations. 81-1 and 81-2. 81-2 was the first to the scene which unless it is in their area is rare. Squirt 81-2 calls "Fully involved Structure Fire." Then they come on again "Clear on Side A" Thats all I'm saying about this.

clear on side A could have been many different things. The FF on radio could have been stating that Side A is clear of Cars/People/etc. I dont know, just a guess.

If there is a story, a joke, or anything else that is supposed to make sense, I'm not seeing it. My cat's breath smells like cat food.
Even the burger-flippers at McDonald's probably have some McWackers.

My German Shepard's breath smells like cat food too------the cat was the food.

Im leaning towards this being stupid sentance rather than a funny story.

isn't side A the front of the house?

                Side A: Front of Dwelling
Side B: Left part of Dwelling
                Side C: Rear of Dwelling
Side D: Right part of Dwelling

Maybe the radio operator got mixed up on what he wanted to say.

I dont know what Side A is

To be honest with you I dont know what Side A really means i guess thats pretty bad. But I only know what the Basics are. Fully Involved I didnt know that at my first structure fire that i actuall went to the scene cause it was right around the corner from my house. I know what a working structure fire is. I know what an MVA is. I know what an Lz is the basic stuff I know. We don't use many codes at my station that was the first time in my 1 yr and 9 months that i ever heard Side A. All I know is that the boys in blue from #2 called "Fully Involved" and then they said "Clear on Side A". Thats all I know.

                    --edit--

I was going to put a response to this non-sense here again. Instead however, I think I am just going to sit here and shake my head.

Mdods that is not always right. What ever side the first unit rolls up to is side "A".

EX: An engine rolls up into a drive way on the side of the house, even though it is the "side" of the house that is still side "A".
A,B,C,D has no bearing on where the street or front door is located.

Depends where you are. In our area here, Side A is ALWAYS street side. Then it works clock-wise from there A-B-C-D.
I don't understand what the original post was asking for or telling.

I suggest to you that you talk to your explorer Co-ordinator and ask them to explain this to you. Also if you have access to an IFSTA 4 Essentials for Fire Fighting you may want to start reading. If you have been their for a year and you don't know what "side A" is If you have any questions or anything contact me. You may want to read the explorer quizzing sections here also.

You aren't the only one brother.

We don't even use letters for sides of a structure. We use side 1,2,3,4. Side 1 is always the address and they go counterclockwise.
