My school allow's us to leave school in case of a fire call. In case of a fire, afa, or gas leak at the school's building, we do leave the classroom, respond to the station, then roll in with the department. I'd like to point out a few key points before I get anyones flak. The members of my Ladder Company that are allow'd to leave school incase of a call, are both (myself and a fellow member) Full Firefighters in our company. We both have training and are of age to enter an IDLH environment. Therefore we are usefull on scene. Our department also has a lower memberbase at the moment, requesting everything everyone has at every call.

Why would we leave school, only to come back? First of all, We don't have our main sets of gear with us, our school is 3 blocks away from our HQ, and we have the time to get there. Secondly, is we all know (Wheather your a truckie or a engine boy) That there is after-incident work to be done, weather it be filling bottles back up, hosing off tools and hose, or streightening everything back out before we all go home, These job's can be done Much faster by a bunch of people, rather then the 1-3 people other then myself and my fellow school-mate that we would have on the truck at the time. It works.

We keep our grades up, were allow'd to do this, we start failing classes and getting written up, we lose the privledge. Its working, and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't, we don't abuse it.

I agree with Jake - you are at school, on their time, not your own - are you allowed to carry gear with you? Teachers need to maintain accountability - also, with the world we are in these days, you probably want to make sure you aren't involved as you are a regular at the premises.....

    Yes.

    No. Not anymore than normal.

We have never had this happen. I wouldn't think you would be allowed to help because if it happens during school hours you are the school's responsibility, and I can almost promise you that they will not let you leave. After hours I don't see why it would be a problem.
