How much $ do you make?

How much do you make per year? I am curious to see how we compare. I am a 16 year veteran of a metro Atlanta Department with 11 as a Lt. and I just broke $70K with no overtime. I am not complaining by any means but curious to see how we compare.
We are not under a contract and GA is a right to work state. Does that hurt us or help us. I always thought we were treated very well but am very curious to see the comparisons.

Driver/Engineer-Paramedic, 3 years on the department, I cleard $30K with no OT. Starting wage on our department is somewhere about $26K with a $1300/year paramedic stipend.

6-year career FF making $44,200 without overtime. Very competitive for our area.

We don't get Kelly days, rather, 2 out of every 3 paychecks has 3 hours of OT automatically built in.

In our department, EMT-I's get 9.6% above thier base salary, and EMT-P's get 14.8% above base. This applies from the rank of FF to deputy chief.

Check here for a good report on CA salaries. Note that the consultant "accidentally" left out San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose as they are highly paid and added in Phoenix and Houston as they make less. This skews the results in the city's favor.

On edit: Keep in mind that our firefighters are making about the same here as other folks across the country... but the average price for a house is $525,000 or something like that.

How much do you make?

I have 6 years as a career firefighter/EMT-I and I make around $52,000. This includes 2% for longevity, and 1% for EMT-I. We get a kelly day every 13th duty day. Overtime is plentiful. Last year I made around $15,000 in overtime.

In northeast Wisconsin, I am a firefighter/paramedic with 12 years on the job. Base salary is about $56,000. We pay 5% of our insurance premiums and have a $15 office visit co-pay. No eyecare or dental.

We work the Chicago schedule, 24 on and 48 off with no Kellys. Averages to a 56 hour week.

Salary only tells part of the story. It is not how much you earn but what life style your salary allows you to live that counts.

Does your salary allow you to live a decent life or do you have to scrimp on everything in order to make ends meet? Do you have to have a second job just to pay for everyday things? Are you living the life style you want to lead? By that I mean can you go hunting or fishing without driving a hundred miles (if this is what you want) or are you able to live close to where you work or close to family? Can you afford a home in a middle class neighborhood or are you living hundred miles away not because you want to but because they don’t pay enough for you to live where you work. Are you even able to afford a home or do you have to rent with little or no chance of ever getting into the American dream of a single family home?

Would you change departments for more money? Would you up and move across the nation just to make more money? And most importantly, have you done all you can to help your local squeeze all there is from your department? It doesn’t matter whether you are in a collective bargaining state or a right to work state, you still have to have more yes votes than no votes for a pay raise and you only get those when you have a strong local that is politically active 365 days a year.

In my 7th year on the job and my current FF base is around $52,000 + OT + $2500 paramedic pay + 2% longevity for every 5 years on the job. We work a 24/48 schedule and get 11 kellys off per year along with 5 holidays and 5 vacation days.
