Your degree may or may not help you, depending on what it was.
    Being bilingual is a plus.
No fire experience is great, as you will learn quicker and not have the "on my old FD, we did it this way" syndrome. The FD that hires you will more than likely do some in house training prior to you attending their fire academy if it is run by a state agency, some larger cities run their own academies.
‎"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."
    Lt. Ray McCormack, FDNY
