  • Mass Fire Lt exam

    Hello Brothers and Sisters,

Did anyone take the Lt exam for Massachusetts? Does anyone happen to remember what question #7 was? The reason was I protested a couple of questions anmd trying to figure out which question was overturned? If anyone knows please help!

The last promotional exam I took was over 5 years ago. I don't know if they are doing the same procedure, but there was an answer key that should have come with your letter if you passed that would have the questions that were protested marked as everyone getting credit for it.

For those unfamiliar with the Massachusetts Civil Service system, The Department of Personnel administration hires "educators" to write the exam questions out of the textbooks that are used for that particular exam. Sometimes they pose a question that has all of the possible answers to be correct.. other times.. they pose a question with incomplete information that makes it impossible to answer the question... they have even made up questions where all of the answers are wrong...

Of course, this problem could be alleviated by actually having someone with a fire service background write the exam for fire promotion, -police backgrounds for police exams, etc.
‎"The education of a firefighter and the continued education of a firefighter is what makes "real" firefighters. Continuous skill development is the core of progressive firefighting. We learn by doing and doing it again and again, both on the training ground and the fireground."

Gonzo, they don't allow you to write down your answers anymore. So by the time the marks are out you have no clue what question or what your answer was.

Thank you, but I'm trying to find out what question #7 was? I protested it but I can't remeber what it was about?

So they don't let you review your promotional tests at all? We used to be able to review ours for a period of 1 week. Both the question and answer sheet. We had 1 hour at a time to review them. We could even bring books into the review.
