Wildland Certification.... TX

Where can I get a wildland certification in Texas? A FF buddy of mine called it a red tag. I'm north of dallas and was looking on TEEXs site and saw nothing. Wanting it to help with a future move.

Try contacting the Texas Forest Service. You are looking for getting your "Red Card", which is comprised of NWCG (National Wildfire Coordinating Group) courses S-130 and S-190. Also you will have to take the Work Capacity Test, aka "The Pack Test" which is where you have 45 minutes to walk 3 miles wearing a 45 pound weight vest.

thanks for the reply. been searching like mad and have located two places for the nwcg courses but you need to have a 'course administrator' which would be a fire chief or department contact that can certify it... i'm not currently employed with a department so how can i get it w/o being involved with a department. planning a move and the red card will help out a lot but i need to be able to get it in my present situation.

One way to get your red card would be to go work for any of the fed agencies as a seasonal firefighter. Since you are in TX, try looking for jobs in the Southern region.. Fire season down there, especially Florida, is starting to gear up, as opposed to here in the West where we are looking at season ending weather events possibly this weekend.
