I did a little research for you. California is not a IFSAC approved state. However It is Proboard approved. You certs must be IFSAC, Proboard, or DOD.
If your Certs dosen't have the Proboard seal, you must contact the state fire commission here is a good starting point.

    Mailing Address: P.O.Box 944246 Sacramento, CA 94244-2460
Location Address: 1131 "S" Street Sacramento, CA 95811
    Phone: (916) 445-8200

    Fire Fighter Certification Processing
    Phone: (916) 445-4758 Fax: (916) 445-8128

This is the best I can do for ya. Considering I've lived in Tennessee all my life and never any futher west than Mercury, NV.

I have been reading all of these threads and really thinking about giving this a shot, I just have a few quick questions.

First, do you absolutely HAVE to have 3 years of experience?? Or is that something they will overlook if you have your certs

Second, i have my Illinois FF II/ hazmat ops/ emt-b and nremt-b. Do these comply with the certs they want?

Also if anyone has done a stint there, Do we respond to calls off base? And what does daily life really consist of? ( Mostly training, running a lot of calls, down time etc.)

I know these have probably been answered somewhere else but I dont really have the time to read thru EVerything,

                Thanks fellas

twrenn.....If I remember correctly, Illinois is not an IFSAC or PorBoard state. Your certs do not qualify for reciprocity. I was in your situation and none of my certs did not transfer to DoD certs that are required for the position. I had to take all the classes over again. Unless things have changes in the past few years, you will have to do the same. I hope I am wrong but check it out.

                    Greetings All!

I'm new to the site. A little new to the fire service, and experienced with Iraq.
Just joined the site today. Got my FF1/2 IFSAC and HAZMAT OPS 1 yr ago. Almost done with P-school now. Performed as a vehicle and firetruck mechanic with the AF (sometimes Army) during OIF 3,4,5,6. Honorable sep Apr '08

I've read several posts and heard much over the last two years about the prospect of going overseas to do what I love and have a fat pocket when I get back. What I'm wondering is where to start. What companies are hiring? Is it hard to get into? A sentence of direct information would help tremendously.

                    Much appreciated.

Several companies operating out there. One that is veteran friendly is the one that is hiring me. www.dyncorp.com or either www.itt.com . Both will treat you right and they are in Afghanistan and pay a bit better than WSI from what I have been told. Any questions let me know and I can send you some info.

I would love to recieve all the info you can give if you could. Since I'm almost done with medic school, I'm hoping and willing to put in the effort to head back overseas at the beginning of the year if possible. I've never been to Afghanistan, but I definitely would like to. My cousin's over there right now with the army as an army medic.
One thing I'm wondering is what these companies like to see on a resume. I have a few set up for different types of jobs with different highlights. What would thrill them to see?
