  • Finally Leaving for AFghan...

    Hello Brothers,

I had posted a while back asking about working in AFghanistan. Seems like not too many have actually gone there. Anyways, I leave in a few hours to go get my 2 weeks of orientation and then I am Khandahar bound after that. I do not know how well the internet capabilities will be or how much acess I will have so I just wanted to give a heads up now. I will try to check in often to provide insight as to how it is here in case others are planning the same thing. Maybe I might even be able to coordinate a meet up with some of you on my first break if it happens to be the same time. I definitly will need some advice on where to go R n R in 110 days or so...lol.

Of all the places I went while I was in Kuwait, my fav's were Australia, Greece, Germany, Jordan, and id even throw in Egypt. Because of the area you are in, I would hit up India, or like Cowfire mentioned Thailand (Phuket specifically.....beautiful place to do some diving if you are a diver). Dubai and Bahrain aren't too far from you either and I think both places are worth checking out.

        Kandyland

        AK,

Kandahar is great. They have a great staff in place now. I was the chief there and did the start up. All the equipment, trucks and such are in place. They have a great station and the best part is that you get to live there 24/7 without ever having to live in a tent unless you are assigned to one of the satellite stations. Internet is provided in every room. Get with Kandahar Lunchbox and he will get you hooked up.

They have a large BX with aobut everything that you will need to survive. Seriously pack light as you can get most of the items at the BX to include TV's and stereos.

The downside on the first trip over is staying in Sharjah in Dubai. Non-drinking area of the country. Do not get caught or you can wind up in the pokey. There is no C-130 flight over anymore it is commercial and direct to the base..

The training department is very aggressive to get your certifications levels up to speed and beyond and it is up to you to make the best of the situation.

As for R&R's everyone there knows that I am preferrential to Turkey.. It costs about $900.00 RT from Dubai to Antalya. This is the Turkish coast where you can have your choice of everything.. Great bars and clubs and inexpensive...

Have a great tour of duty over there..
