Thoughts on wearing a class A to funeral for non-public safety?
What about weddings?
Thanks

Why would you want to? Just my opinion but also what is your department's take on wearing it to other events not department related.

They should be reserved for fire related functions only. In my eyes, it shows respect for the fire service and her members. Joe Blow does not deserve it at his wedding.

Fire related functions only!

I agree with MassFire - it shows respect for the fire service and her members

Wearing your class A's to a non fire function is classless and whackerish.

Got a wedding or a funeral to go to?

Buy a nice suit.

Don't! Consult your fire department uniform guidelines. It will most likely say that wearing the official uniform is only for official occasions, such as go to and from work, going to the fire chiefs office or a fire department funeral.

Weddings and non firefighter funerals don't count as official!!!

Bar Mitzvahs don’t count either!

I think our fire company only wears our Class A's for fire-related functions such as firefighter funerals.

If you are officially representing the department, then it becomes an official department function. Though you might be the only person representing the department.

No. And yes, just asking the question makes you a wacker.

I Kinda disagree a bit with some posts here. In this month, so far, I've worn my dress blues on about 10 occasions, my wife has only missed one of those events. True, we wear ours a lot more than most folks, and we've picked up a lot of feel for what's right and what isn't. For Instance, we attended a Funeral a couple of weeks back for an elderly lady who had no official connection to the Fire Service, BUT, she had been a very strong supporter of our department for many years, and her family and friends were aware of that. So we made sure that her passing was recognized by our organization. Only thing I can tell you about weddings is that a couple of years ago, the Groom's entire party wore Tuxedos topped off with a Leather Helmet. (Not in the Church itself, but everywhere else.) I had the duty of telling those in attendence who had no clue about the Fire Service that we simply didn't want our guys to be confused with Penguins.

Perfectly acceptable. Your Department wanted to acknowledge this citizens years of support by having a representative at her funeral.

For Bizfinty to even ask the question, though.....Much less actually show up at his Aunt Josephine's funeral, or his second cousin's wedding in his class A's........WACKER!!!!!

I agree with the "NO NO NO" stance. However recently the city parks department hosted a "daddy daughter dance" where alot of firemen took thier daughters. Most of the fireman attending were working that day and arraged for trade time. Kind of last minute they decided to dress in class A's. This included Firemen, Engineers, Captains and a Battalion Chief. Everyone at the event thought it was a classy move and the daughters were "Super" proud of their fathers that night.

If I had a daughter, and was going to attend, I can't say that I wouldnt have done the same.

In the guys defense it was a city event, and a great PR opportunity.

Oh please no, not lights! Someone will think you're talking about lights on personal vehicles and look where that'll take us!

Dress uniforms? Where your own organisation says you can wear them, you can wear them.
