I recently joined my local VFD after years and years of debating whether I should/shouldn't. I have always had high regard for firemen/women considering what it is they do, NYFD being the bravest but that is of course only because I am originally from NY (dont hold it against me).

I felt bad post 911 due to what happened to those brave men who perished in the two towers and for years after again, felt that I really should do something not only for my own curiosity but also to help out my town and town FD, not to many people are willing to volunteer these days, my local department only has 12 men.

So here I am, a new fireman want to be, I am not certified, and have no formal training...yet however my local department is willing to train me until the summer when they will send me to the academy where I will take essentials.

I am taking this very seriously and trying to have fun as well cause I really want to succeed in this, I consider it an honor to be in a company that would be willing to train me being that I come to them with no experience. Not only that but I think I am fortunate in that the men I have met so far are really professional, know there stuff and have for the most part opened up there department to me.

I have no questions...yet, just want to say hello to you all and one day hope to be called Firefighter.
