Hey fellas just wondering what states will accept my Florida FF 1&2; EMT-B. I am pro board cert, but dont know if that does much good for me either. I work as a paid FF right now, but thinking about heading home out west or maybe getting out of the heat and heading a little north. Any info would be great. Thanks.

Florida accepts Florida certifications.
Test for and pass the National Registry of EMTs exam for EMT-Basic. That will help you out tremendously. As far as your firefighter certs, try become IFSAC certified. You are already Pro-Board but IFSAC may assist you as well. Alot of that will depend on where you want to work. Research the areas you are applying to and find out what you need to make you marketable/competitive. Many smaller FDs look for certified people to hire. Many FDs (including alot of large FDs) could care less as they are going to train and certify you at their expense.
Bottom line... find out where you want to work and research it. If you will become more competitive by being certified prior to hire, spend some time and money by going out there and testing to get their (whatever state you are wanting to work in) certs and go from there. If your are wanting to work somewhere that does not give any extra consideration to certified folks, save your time and money and go out there for the civil service test and give it 110% effort as that will determine who gets hired and who does not. Brush up on your math skills.
Good luck!
