Hello all. I know this is an unusual question for these forums, but I figured I would give it a shot.....
I am into some recreational shooting, mostly .22, 9mm, and .45 ACP. However I was buying some ammo the other day and I saw both .45 ACP and .45 GAP. What is the difference between the two?
Thanks. Stay safe.

Kevin,
.45 ACP is for Automatic Colt Pistol aka 1911's and is the standard .45 cartridge. .45 GAP is Glock Automatic Pistol and was developed by Glock to take the balistics of the ACP and put it into a shorter more managable cartridge for their high capacity pistols. It didn't really catch on, and ACP remains standard. I haven't shot GAP but as a 1911 owner I would tell you you will feel it in the pocket book as the more scarce the ammo the more it will cost.
Good Shooting,
Rob

Good info! If you dont mind me asking, how do the two cartriges compare ballistically? Did the GAP give up any "punch" for its shorter size?

Not to detract from the knowledgeable folks on this forum, but if you head over to www.glocktalk.com - I'm sure you'll find all the info you ever wanted (and then some) on the .45 GAP cartridge.

Having just shot a Glock 37 in .45 GAP just the other day, I'll inform you that it was a pleasure to shoot. The ammo is interchangeable between the two, ACP and GAP. GAP was just designed by Glock for more ballistic effects. The ammo is more expensive, but not by much. Stick to the cheaper .45 ACP in a good old 1911-series pistol. .45 ACP manufactured by Wolf is extremely cheap when bought.

Found an article from Shooting Times that explains the .45 GAP pretty well.

Glock's annual magazine (paper version, not the ammo carrying one) shows more LEO agencies going to GAP. We'll see in the long run.
I post alot at Glocktalk as well under RyanNREMTP.
Interesting place if you ask me. What with zombies running rampant and all.

Though I've been scoping a Taurus Tracker in .45 ACP,I'll wait until Ruger offers a Redhawk or GP 100 platform in .45 ACP before buying a revolver in a pistol caliber.
