I'm supposed to start an Academy soon for a career department. I was curious if anyone has any advice or tricks for pressing your uniform and keeping good creases, etc. I know how to press it and have it look pretty good, but I'm looking for anything I might be missing.

This is going to sound like the easy way out, but I would have them pressed at the drycleaners. This is NOT to say that you DO NOT have PRIDE in your appearance, but you will have enough on your plate with studying and everything else that goes along with being in the hectic academy atmosphere.

Something I learned in the military was to run a glue stick down the inside of a crease. then when you iron it it will stay with that sharp crease

Lay a lint free towell over your pants and use the steam feature of the iron to create a great crease.

I agree, and with the cleaners you also dont have to worry (as much) about double creases etc. It only costs a few dollars and is usually well worth it.

I agree with AZ, you have an all you can eat buffet on your plate. Take it to the cleaners. Most towns have a 99 cent, one day service. Find that and use that. And if you don't get that dirty one day, you can touch up the creases with an iron for the next day. Good luck.

We're lucky enough to have a dry-cleaners near our training center that gives the FD the same discount that they give the PD - $1 per item! :D That's where I take mine the few times a year I have to wear a Class A.

Since you know how to iron, you should have no problem, the shirts be they short or long sleeve are easy to press. The pants can be a pain in the butt, trying not to scorch them and/or preventing dbl creases. One trick that Ive learned is to take your pants to the dry cleaners and have them pressed. Once you have a good crease in your pants, you got it licked. After you wash/dry your uniform, fold them along the creases and hang them upside down by the cuffs. Spray them down with starch and when they dry, your good to go.
Hope this helps. Stay safe and good luck
