Just stopping by to warn anyone thinking of joining the millitary to become a firefighter. DONT!! I was in for four years, just recently got out. and it was the biggest mistake of my life. I know....alot of you will say, "it is what you make it".........thats a load of crap. I did all my "training" on time and NEVER got into any trouble. It is just the most assinine pointless job ever! These morons think this job is sooo important and its not. You are a janitor and thats it. You do all kinds of training for nothing, over and over and over....you wont see a fire or save a life or any of that crap.....your doing the training so the A/C or station captain can get there rocks off.......b/c most of them .....no no no, all of them are ate up MORONS and think fire fighting is the only thing on this planet. All signs of intelligence dissapear when you enter the station...lmao, try to find an intellagent conversation.......impossible. Everyone is just a bunch of brute neandatralls who are brainwash to thing this job is important. My days.......and the few people I worked with who weren't brain washed consisted of eating and watching tv......until some ate up moron tried to create some type of busy work.....from there we would go half-ass it and be done until some other ate up homo would create something else.....and so on and so on. If you are a smart person......PLEASE do not waste your potential on this......leave this job for the people who like fart jokes and got their G E D. Oh and think you will be able to go to school..........forget about it. Once again these ate up idiots who think firefighting is the only thing on earth will not allow this........there is volumes upon volumes of worthless FF crap you gotta do.....oh and they also assume you think this job is your life, and you have no family. I can not stress enough how plain dumb and pointless this job really is......its an endless circle of crap filled with ate up people whose firefighting is the only thing in the world that exist......use common sense, DONT DO IT!! I know this probaly will get deleted b/c the mod is probably one of those people I talked about earlier........and thinks millitary fire fighting is important........he probably has his department SOP's memorized by heart.......yea, those kind of people exist........its sad......

Do us all a favor and stay away from the Fire Service. We consider ourselves to be a paramilitary organization. You were miserable in the military and you will be miserable as a firefighter. Do yourself a favor and find a job where your talents will be recognized.
We will be OK without you.

So training is crap.
Busy work, is crap.
Dealing with firefighters who actually like what they do, and want to live it as much as possible, is crap.
Why the hell did you become a firefighter?
I'm sure it sucks to be at a slow station in the military. I've known guys that have done that. However, they didn't hate it, and certainly didn't complain about the tons of free training and practice they got.

First opinions about HIM would be more telling.
Why the hell did you become a firefighter?
Because he was chicken to get shot at.
Of course, we are all probably just "ate up morons", huh?

I don't know why anyone would submit a post such as that. But, you're entitled to your opinion bud, and so am I.
It's MY opinion you should start by going back to school. Your grammar, spelling, and sentence structure absolutely sucks!!! Once you complete school, sit back and be thankful that there are men and women whom are glad to complete "volumes and volumes of worthless FF crap" and other "crap" so you have the right to bash. I also hope you thank GOD for thses people and what he has given us. I suppose cleaning the apparatus, tools, and station as well as training, studying for advancement, and yes the "busy work" did nothing for you??
I am OFFENDED because I spent 9 years serving my country in the United States Navy and I continue to serve my community as a Correctional Officer and a volunteer firefighter (Including my Navy firefighting, I've been a firefighter for over 15 years). I found that the "worthless crap" jobs I did both in the Navy, and as a rookie firefighter, taught me skills and were motivation to advance.
So kid, just sit back, keep your mouth shut, and observe.
Be safe everone!!!

Many things come to mind about this douche bag, mature adult is not one of them. I agree with Chief Lapore, stay away, very far away. Walmart always needs people to stock shelves, start there. Maybe in time, you can be the 2nd assistant manager to the lead stocker.....

Probably the same "The admin" that made him clean toilets:eek:

02-11-2008, 10:41 AM
Ahhhh....so we're talking about "The Man"?
In the navy we were always wondering who the "they" were when things would come up as in "The toilets need to be cleaned a certain way." "Why are we having a third field-day this week?"
The answer would normally be, "Because they said."
"Who is "they"?" we would ask.
Eventually it came to light.
"They" were the CO, XO, and the COB (Chief of the Boat).
This became the usual reply when something was questioned.
"Why are we having corned beef?"
"What's up with the Patriots losing the Super Bowl?"
"Because they said so."
"Who?"
"CO, XO, COB."
"Oh."
So maybe, Mr. X equates "the admin" to "The Man", and in a sense, his own personal "CO, XO, COB".
BTW: The campfire scene in "Blazing Saddles"....priceless!

My opinion on this thread starter,
He never served in the military He is just some punk kid that likes to make up new screen names and come on these forums and start threads in an attempt to get people all fired up. Normally I would not even waste my time to reply to such a post. Just wanted to state what I feel before this gets out of hand.

It could be the same guy who posted the “I just walked away from AF” thread under the Military and Federal forum, using a different pseudonym. As posted by others he needs a serious grammar lesson.

I almost never post on subjects like this one, and I admit I am a bottom-feeder on this forum. But I have to post on this. I am a Marine, and I hated my life when I was a private. I had to do all of the "pointless" work and training over and over again. But guess what, Now that I am a team leader part of my job is to assign my new Marines to the crappy jobs and plan training. I can honestly look back and say everything I did had a purpose. Clean the head twice in a week? why?? But now when I see how trashy some people are, I literally HAVE to make them clean. And train on the same things over and over again? I thank God I did, because when the SHTF I react without even thinking. So before you go bashing your service, maybe you should look back and see what you learned and all the experience you gained while you were in?
No time for school? Guess what? Team leaders do everything junior people do, plus take care of them, plus all of the pen-pusher crap. And I am close to earning my second bat. degree on Unkle Sams pocket book. Thank goodness because I would be paying student loans off when I retire if I didnt.
Whether you are talking about the boot in the military, or the rookie on a department, the job sucks the same but it really does have a purpose. I am the probie at my department and guess what? I have to do the crap jobs. But I go the extra mile of making sure I am the first awake in the morning, have the coffee ready, make sure gear is clean and ready, turnouts are organised, the dishwasher is empty, and the cheif has his coffee in his favorite mug, with two scoops of sugar and irish creamer waiting on his desk about 5 minutes before he gets there. And it reflects the type of person I am. I have the respect of the senior firefighters, not as a salty but as the new guy who has his **** straight.
And FYI, cvs is always hiring box boys, you sound like the perfect guy for the job. I sure as heck dont want you in the military or fire service.

Without trying to give more credibility to the OP than he's due, I will say this. My cousin's husband went AF, all hot to trot to get a firefighting slot. The recruiter made it sound like getting the job was like applying at Wal-Mart.
He spent his entire hitch driving fuel trucks. Turns out FF is one of the most sought-after enlisted jobs in the Air Force- damn near impossible to get. Thousands of kids like he was, trying to get military points for civilian FF jobs, and do it while actually learning about firefighting.
Most of them never even see a firetruck, never mind work on one.

IDMarine,
Best post I've read anywhere in awhile. We need more people like you who understand that there is a meaning behind all "the crap jobs" that we have to do. I've been out of the military for quite sometime now, and off probation in the fire service, but what I still hold near-and-dear to me to this day is Attention To Detail. It's part of my daily life.

I'm forever trying to explain to the young Airmen that forever gripe about the crappy jobs they have to perform and the substandard treatment they receive from my fellow NCO's that it's not any better on the outside. Sure you have a higher call volume and at any point you can just say 'piss off' and quit, but you have to deal with the same type of washing trucks/mopping floors/doing dishes crap. And they usually only have to do it here until another new guy PCS's in.. most major fire departments (or at least the ones i know) make you stay on probation for at least a year, these guys only have to do it for a couple of months.. and with the kinder gentler air force we can't even haze them any more.. and that used to be the best part about new guys coming in.
About the original post though.. the thoughts the guys is spewing forth are heard a lot around here.. could the air force manage fire protection better? Maybe.. but it's the job of the NCO's in charge of that poor young troop to try and steer him right.. looks like that didn't happen, but i can echo a little of his frustration.. he prolly could have gone about it differently.. and he needs to realize that the grass may be greener on the other side.. but it prolly tastes the same.

Hey, new to the site but this post is interesting to me.
I hope Chief Lepore can back me up on this. I am in the Army Reserves and while I know the military is not my thing as far as a career, I value what it has given me. I am finishing my commitment so that I can dedicate all my time to being the best firefighter I can be. I have learned the chain of command, how to suck it up, how to lead, and im not even out yet. I also had to leave my job with Cal Fire for a year to serve overseas in a miserable country. So when this DB starts talking about how he hates military firefighters he needs to check himself. I know it might not be the easiest or the best route to that badge but being in the service has given me more than this guy will ever have. I am working hard and testing all over, hoping to get a chance at my dream job and I know my hard work will pay off. Blaming others for your crappy life is exactly why you have a crappy life. So step up, stop crying, grap your small sack and shutup because there are plenty of people that would love the opportunities youve been given.
